This initiative provides small and medium-sized farmers with a high-value crop alternative.
Peru’s National Institute for Agrarian Innovation (INIA) is advancing work to adapt raspberry production to the country’s northern coastal conditions. Through its Virú Agricultural Experimental Station (EEA Virú), located in the La Libertad region, the institute is developing cultivation methods suited to the area’s climate.
Research at the station includes genetic studies, micropropagation, and field trials aimed at establishing effective management practices for raspberries under coastal conditions.
According to INIA, the project plans to produce between 100,000 and 200,000 raspberry plants, offering small and medium-sized farmers a new crop option with strong profitability potential.
