Forecast of 300 000 tonnes for persimmons whose production will double again

The production of persimmons increases in Spain and could double by 2020.
Spanish persimmon production will reach about 300 000 tonnes this season, and could rise by two times in 2020.
During the presentation of the new persimmons campaign, the DOP (Denomination de Origen Protegida) Ribera Xúquer is expected to produce 160,000 tonnes of persimmon this season (110 000 tonnes last year).
In 2020 in Spain the production should reach 640,000 tons of persimmons. The cultures are experiencing continuous expansion since 2003 and surfaces have tripled. Persimmons are now exported to 54 countries, mainly Germany, France and Italy but also to Saudi Arabia.
