This year, French production rose by 6.4% to 6.3 million tonnes (Photo: producersdepommesdeteree.org).
While last year the total volume produced had been strongly impacted by the fall in average yield, this year with the increase of the surfaces and the yield's improvement the French potatoes' production increases by 6.4%.
According to UNPT and CNIPT data, for this year French production of ware potatoes amounts to 6,341,400 tons against 5,962,000 in 2018, an increase of 6.4% in 1 year. The surface area covering 148,290 hectares increased by 2.1% over one year. The average gross yield is around 42.8 tonnes / hectare in 2019. It is up by 4.4% compared to 41 t / ha recorded last year.
These figures correspond to raw yields harvested, knowing that there are still, today, several hundred hectares not harvested in France, because of the difficult weather conditions that followed one another in the fall. The actual production available on the market is therefore between 6 250 000 tonnes and 6 300 000 tonnes. These harvesting difficulties also exist in other countries in Europe.
