According to local media reports, the 2024 apple season has begun in the Hawke's Bay region, in stark contrast to the losses suffered as a result of Cyclone Gabrielle last season. The sector is optimistic for this season, with the harvest likely to be double that of the previous year.
The 1st apple shipment of the season has left Napier Port. More than 100 containers were loaded on the 1st day, containing around 14.6 million apples. The volume is set to rise to 1,500 containers a week in peak season.
