Mexico expects stable tomato and chilli supply for spring harvest

Water-managed farming areas underpin dependable harvest expectations this spring.
Mexico is forecast to maintain stable production of key vegetables, particularly tomatoes and chilli peppers, during the spring 2026 harvest cycle, according to the latest outlook from the Servicio de Información Agroalimentaria y Pesquera (SIAP).
The agency reported that production stability is being supported by irrigated farming systems in northern producing states, where controlled water access helps maintain consistent yields despite seasonal variability. These regions play a central role in supplying both domestic markets and export programmes.
Early estimates from SIAP indicate that output levels for tomatoes and chilli peppers are expected to remain in line with typical seasonal volumes. The outlook suggests that current production conditions are sufficient to meet demand without major disruptions.
Tomatoes and chilli peppers remain among Mexico’s most commercially significant vegetable crops, widely distributed across national retail channels and shipped to key export destinations, particularly in North America. Maintaining steady production during the spring cycle is therefore critical for market stability and trade planning.
