Korean premium pears enter Vietnam

The cooperatives expect to expand exports further this year.
South Korea has sent its first shipment of 2025-season pears to Vietnam. The delivery, made on September 8, weighed 16.2 tonnes and was valued at about 60 million KRW (around 43,000 USD). The fruit will be sold in major cities such as Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Vietnam’s own pear production is limited to a few northern mountain areas where the cooler climate allows small-scale farming. Local pears are generally smaller, have a short two-month harvest season, and spoil quickly without cold storage.
By contrast, Korean pears are being marketed as a premium product, highlighting their sweetness, freshness, and strict food safety standards. Exporters aim to expand further across Southeast Asia this year, with plans to ship about 200 tonnes to markets including Thailand and Indonesia.
