Azerbaijani farmers prepare 160,000-tonne feijoa crop

Azerbaijan’s feijoa harvest is underway in the Lankaran region.
Farmers in Azerbaijan expect to harvest at least 160,000 tonnes of feijoa this season, with the main picking now underway in the southern Lankaran region. The crop is grown on around 500 hectares in the area, where conditions this year have been favorable, according to local media.
Growers say yields are strong, with mature trees producing 15–20 kg of fruit each. Feijoa is collected by hand to avoid damage — ripe fruit is gathered from the ground, while unripe fruit is left on the tree to finish maturing. The harvest is sorted directly in the orchards: softer fruit goes to local markets, while higher-grade fruit is shipped to cold storage for export to CIS markets.
Feijoa is valued for its vitamin C and iodine content, and demand is high in Baku markets, where the fruit currently sells for around 3 manats per kilogram.
