Peru to export over 250,000 tonnes of fresh mango in 2025/26

About 70% of orchards in San Lorenzo (Piura) are in fruit-set stage now.
Peru expects to export over 250,000 tonnes of fresh mango in the 2025/2026 season, according to Ángel Gamarra, president of Promango. Last season’s exports reached around 287,000 tonnes. Gamarra said the current campaign will be long, continuing until April, with strong production anticipated.
Early in the season, growers in San Lorenzo (Piura) were concerned due to weak flowering, but recent cool night temperatures helped boost development. Now, about 70% of orchards there are in fruit-set stage, compared with just 30% in August. San Lorenzo — Peru’s main mango region — has 24,000 hectares and typically accounts for most of the country’s Kent mango supply.
Other regions are also showing improvement:
-Motupe (Lambayeque) expects around 60% flowering this season across 4,000 ha.
-Casma (Áncash), which harvests later (March–April), still has time for flowering to strengthen.
Some producers report water restrictions, with growers receiving less irrigation than the volume they are entitled to, partly due to competing rice production in Piura.
Peru’s total mango area continues to expand, with roughly 40,000 hectares planted nationwide. Last season, national production reached about 800,000 tonnes, with fresh exports, frozen processing, local sales, and some fruit losses due to water shortages.
