In Australia, the Northern Territory region is the region with the largest mango production in the country.
An important step for the Northern Territory mango sector with the first direct shipment of mangoes to the South Korean market by a Cathay Pacific flight which took on board nearly 50 tonnes of fruit. Further flights are planned until the end of the 2022 mango season.
These direct exports were made possible through a partnership between the Northern Territory Government, NT Farmers and Pak Fresh Handing. The mangoes are thus exported directly from the production region without passing through the major centers (Sydney, Brisbane) on the east coast of Australia.
South Korea imports more than AUS 1.2 billion (USD 777,540,000) worth of fresh fruit per year and has enormous potential to increase the growth of exports from the Northern Territory region.
The Northern Territory region should produce according to the latest harvest forecasts around 4.6 million trays (32,000 tonnes) of mangoes this season.
