Brazilian farmer harvests giant pitahaya

A farmer from Jacinto Machado in Santa Catarina (Brazil) has harvested a pitahaya weighing 2,365 kilos on his farm of just over one hectare. After five years of cultivating this fruit, he had never found one of such extraordinary size, considering that the usual weight of pitahayas varies between 50 and 300 grams.

 

According to the man, already in 2023, the fruits of this plant were larger than usual, and this year the trend continued. The exceptional fruit came from a single flower that developed impressively.

 

The farmer had taken special measures to ensure that the plant would support the weight of the pitahaya. When he finally weighed the fruit, its size was even larger than he had anticipated.
