Clean irrigation with HPNow

East Seaton Farm, one of the leading soft fruit growers in East Scotland that grows strawberries and blueberries on soilless substrate with drip irrigation lines, has encountered outbreaks of slimy white substance inside the irrigation lines, holding tanks, and irrigation system, which significantly blocked droppers and has been resulted to uneven irrigation. Moreover, the grower faced an iron deficiency in the crops, despite the use of iron fertilizers.

This problem has had a negative impact on irrigation uniformity, as well as on system maintenance costs, crop yields and plant health. East Seaton has sought help from HPNow, a company that addresses the challenges in clean water and sanitation by offering a range of on-site hydrogen peroxide generation solutions. HPNow performed an analysis that showed high levels of iron in the white substance. That meant that the substance was absorbing iron intended for plants, which accordingly explains the observed iron deficiency. Consultations with plant pathogen specialists pointed to iron oxidizing bacteria that is the cause of the white substance.

Consequently, on the farm were installed two HPGen A2000 Peroxide UltraPure™ systems, which enriches irrigation water with oxygen, improves irrigation uniformity, reduces irrigation system maintenance and extents irrigation lifetime. The systems controlled the white substance content of the water, which led to positive results over several weeks.
