Central regions remained the main source of fresh produce supply to wholesale markets during the late-summer harvest period.
Large volumes of table grapes and apples continued to dominate wholesale fruit arrivals in Chile at the end of March, reflecting peak harvest activity in central production regions, according to the daily fruit and vegetable market bulletin published by Chile’s Office of Agricultural Studies and Policies (Odepa).
Grapes
Table grapes recorded the highest arrival volumes among fruits in Chile’s main wholesale markets on the reporting date. Supplies were sourced mainly from the Valparaíso, O’Higgins and Metropolitan regions, which are in the final stages of the summer harvest season.
The strong presence of grapes in wholesale markets reflects the seasonal concentration of supply typical for late March, when exporters and domestic channels handle peak volumes before the transition to autumn fruit.
Apples and pears
Apples ranked among the other major fruit categories entering wholesale markets, with supplies coming primarily from the Maule and O’Higgins regions, Chile’s core apple-producing areas. Pear arrivals were also reported from these same regions, indicating stable supply conditions following the main harvest period.
These crops remain key components of domestic distribution during the seasonal shift from summer to autumn production.
Vegetables
Among vegetables, significant arrivals included onions, carrots, pumpkins, tomatoes.
Production was concentrated mainly in the Metropolitan, O’Higgins and Maule regions, which supply large urban wholesale markets during late summer and early autumn.
The bulletin shows continued availability of these staple vegetables as harvesting progresses across central Chile.
Seasonal supply patterns remain the main driver
The report highlights the typical late-season pattern of high fruit and vegetable availability driven by ongoing harvests in central production zones. No major supply disruptions or market concerns were indicated in the bulletin.
