High export potential for papaya

Producers estimate 5 million kilograms of possible exports in the years to come.
The papaya industry in Honduras believes that by promoting crop production and improving productivity, export potential would be important.
APROPAPAYAH (Asociación de Productores de Papaya of Honduras) has an export potential of about 5 million kilograms of papayas. Currently the fruits are sold mainly on the local market but the exports could develop with a better answer to the demands, as different varieties according to the different markets. Europe, the Caribbean and the United States are the destinations to be conquered.
Papaya production in Honduras is concentrated in some areas but other areas suitable for growing this fruit are localized. After the banana, pineapple, melon, paste, and avocado, papaya could join the group of the country's best export products.
