Trust in the prospects for the future rests with European farmers.
The latest survey by COPA (European Farmers) and COGECA (European agri-cooperatives) reveals that farmers' confidence is on the rise in many EU Member States in 2017.
Results for the first quarter of 2017 show that farmers are more optimistic about the future economic outlook than in 2016, the year in which results were at their lowest.
In nine of the 10 Member States participating in the survey (Belgium -Flanders, Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Sweden), the survey reveals that farmers' current and future economic conditions have increased, although levels differ from one country to another. On the other hand, in the United Kingdom, the climate of uncertainty due to Brexit has reduced the confidence of British farmers.
The Copa and Cogeca confidence index is calculated twice a year from the results of the national surveys carried out among 8000 farmers.
