According to the report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the 2020 potato season in Spain ends with mixed data. On the one hand, the total area increased by 1% to reach 67,289 hectares against 66,650 hectares previously; on the other hand, production fell 5.1% to 2,144,523 tonnes compared to 2,259,320 tonnes last season. By regions:
Castilla y Léon: Due to unfavorable climatic conditions, production in the region decreased by 10.2% from 933,664 in 2019 to 838,001 in 2020, with a total planted area of 18,371 hectares compared to 19,180 in 2019.
Galicia: the planted area increased by 15.8% (19,221 hectares), and production by 5.7%, totaling 393,177 tons.
Andalucía: the region has 9,797 hectares, or 1.4% less than in 2019. Production volumes have increased by 7.6% compared to the result of the previous season (331,453 tons against 307,966).
Murcia: the total area planted decreased by 10.2%, going from 4,837 hectares to 4,345, production totaled 149,075 tons or -7.5%.
Castilla La Mancha: the area fell from 2,142 hectares to 1,958, ie -8.6%, and production followed in proportion totaling 65,932 tonnes, or -8.2%.
Comunitat Valenciana: the area increased by 1% from 2,211 hectares in 2019 to 2,234 this year but production fell by 21.1% totaling 56,398 tonnes against 75,359 tonnes in 2019.
