Ecuador expects "Premium" bananas for the Brazilian market
FJ
New market for bananas from Ecuador, Brazil. Brazil has just eliminated the restrictions that existed since 1997 for imports of Ecuadorian bananas.
Since April, Brazil withdrew its restrictions on bananas from Ecuador. Ecuadorian producers estimated that in order to get a place in this vast market, Brazil being itself a producer of bananas, it was necessary to differentiate themselves.
Also, they plan to send "Premium" bananas of different size compared to local products and a better flavor. The idea is to target a market with high purchasing power, with a product of superior quality, as the products shipped to the United States and Europe.
Importers and retail chains in Brazil are already interested. AEBE (Asociación de Exportadores of Banano of Ecuador) estimated to be able to send some 20,000 boxes of bananas per week in the Brazilian market, the largest in South America.
