Spain foresees a stable potato season in 2025

The rains affected plantings, but will not alter expected volumes.
In Spain, potato production remains stable for 2025, with volumes similar to last year, according to data from the FEPEX Potato Committee. Although the rains affected some areas, no significant reductions in the harvest are expected. Early potato harvesting has already started in Murcia and will be extended to Andalusia, the largest national producer, where harvesting is expected to be generalized from the second week of May.
In Castilla y Leon, rainfall has delayed planting, while in Andalusia, despite a drop in yields, the 10% increase in cultivated area will match last year's production levels.
The Committee also raised concerns about the decline in fresh potato consumption, which dropped by 3% in 2024 compared to 2023, totaling 554,446 tons. To address this, efforts will focus on promoting consumption, including participation in agricultural fairs.
