Onion production in Ivory Coast covers only 5 % of consumption .
Ivory Coast imports annually more than 100 000 tonnes of onions ( Senegal, Burkina Faso, Niger , among others) which causes high expenses in foreign currencies.
The production of the country is small and covers only 5 % of consumption therefore the authorities want to advance.
A partnership with the ProFIAB ( Programme for the promotion of agricultural sectors and biodiversity ) wants to encourage farmers to produce onions with quality seeds and improved techniques to increase productivity.
