20 years after the Rio Conference, the report is alarming and tough decisions must be taken to prevent global warming.
Participants at the Rio Conference will try to reach an agreement as the environment has worsened since the first Rio summit 20 years ago. In terms of the preservation of biodiversity and climate, scientists have found that emissions of greenhouse gases increased by 36% in 20 years. This will cause a warming of more than 3 degrees by the end of the century.
The solution is to limit our emissions of greenhouse gases by reducing fossil fuels. Agriculture is central to the debate. Deforestation follows the agricultural commodities.
Depending on the price of soybeans (to feed livestock in developed countries) forests are felled.
Production and food consumption are not trivial in emissions of greenhouse gases. Carbon equivalent: 1 kg of fruits and vegetables = 150 g emitted, 1 kg of bread = 200 g, 1 kg chicken = 850 g , 1 kg of beef = 8500 g, 1kg veal = 11 100g.
