After a year of operation of the new packhouse Aksun continues to break export records and conquers far markets
A year ago in October Aksun has launched new packaging house. Open area is 68 000 sq. m. and closed - 23 800 sq. m. Pack house has storage capacity for 25 000 tons, 4 fast cooling rooms, 14 cold rooms, 10 netting machines and 3 electronic grading machines. Nowadays this is the largest pack house for fruits and vegetables in whole Turkey.
Esra Söyleyen International Trade manager at Aksun shares that company is about to make additional investment in cooling rooms to be able to meet requirements for Japan, as they are very strict. “Japan is one of the key markets for Aksun. We plan to work more closely with Japan and aim is to sell more products to this far country”.
With this new facility Aksun is able to store more products, like pomegranates for example. As before they had to use other companies’ cold rooms. This season the company plans to export more pomegranates than last year - over 5000 tons.
Mrs. Söyleyen also mentions that sales record for this year is figs export. More than 1000 tons already exported and the company still makes shipments. Before record for figs export was 700 tons.
In addition to traditional markets, this year Aksun has expanded sales to Denmark and Finland. The company works only with supermarket chains and retails.
“This will be the first time for Aksun at PMA this year,” – adds Esra Söyleyen. “Instead of focusing on countries, which are close to Turkey, Aksun focuses on far destinations. Our new pack house and equipment, Maf Roda sorting machines – all allows our fruits to have longer transit times. Now after sorting we are able to deliver lemons after 60 days transit time with good quality. This is very difficult to make in Turkey. Our customers are happy. Doesn’t matter how far destination will be, we could be there with perfect quality,” – concludes Esra.
Aksun will be exhibiting at:
- PMA Fresh Summit (Anaheim, CA, USA, 18-19 October) Booth 2490
- Fruit Attraction (Madrid, Spain, 22-24 October) Hall 10, 10C03
