Armenian producers will benefit from reduced average customs duties.
The Armenian government has approved its participation in a new economic partnership agreement between the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), opening the door for expanded fruit and vegetable exports.
As part of the agreement, 95% of Armenian exports to the UAE will receive preferential tariff treatment, according to Armenian media. Fresh produce is a key focus, with dozens of fruit and vegetable products included in the list negotiated by Armenia.
Priority goods covered under the agreement include fresh strawberries, tomatoes, apples, apricots, and other fruits. These items represent Armenia’s primary interests in the UAE fresh produce market.
Current Armenian fruit and vegetable exports to the UAE exceed $1.5 million. With the new agreement in place, the Ministry of Economy projects the sector’s export potential to reach at least $10 million annually.
The UAE’s market for these goods is estimated at $550 million, providing significant room for growth. Armenian producers will also benefit from reduced average customs duties, which will drop from 6% to 2.6% under the new terms.
Officials expect the agreement to improve pricing, competitiveness, and year-round access for Armenian fruits and vegetables in Gulf markets. Implementation of the deal will also provide long-term export stability for farmers and packing houses across the country.
