The table grape contact group, comprised of professionals from France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal, as well as government officials, will gather in Rimini, Italy on May 4-5 to discuss the outlook for the 2023 campaign and issues faced by the community.
The contact group will discuss the concern that the European Parliament and Council's Regulation on the Sustainable Use of Pesticides, presented by the European Commission on June 22 of last year, has generated in the community. This regulation has caused great controversy in the horticultural sector as it aims to reduce pesticide use by 50% and fertilizer use by 20% by 2030, in line with the Farm to Fork Strategy.
According to data from the Department of Customs and Special Taxes, Spain exported 176,456 tons of table grapes in 2022, with a value of 403.2 million euros. The main exporting region is Murcia, with 117,187 tons, followed by Valencia with 30,028 tons.
