Volume and quality for the 2020 harvest, the Origine Cévennes cooperative is approaching the season with optimism.
The 2020 Cévennes sweet onion harvest is in full swing. The onions are of very good quality, which makes it possible to envisage the new marketing campaign with optimism.
The harvest, which started in early August, is expected to continue until the beginning of September. The sweet onion of the Cévennes is generally fairly spared from the consequences of Covid 19. Only compliance with barrier measures has somewhat modified the organization of work to which producers have quickly adapted.
The first sales of this season for products under AOP (Protected Designation of Origin) started on Monday August 17th, a date roughly equivalent to last year. This year, the sanitary quality of the harvest is particularly good and suggests ideal storage conditions throughout the marketing year, ie until March.
Thus, sales forecasts should exceed those of previous seasons and approach 2,500 tonnes, compared to 2,200 tonnes in 2019 and 2,100 tonnes in 2018.
The ORIGINE CEVENNES cooperative brings together 108 producers who cultivate around 45 hectares of sweet onions from the Cévennes (PDO since 2008).
