The customs taxes melt
FJ
The agreement TPP ( Trans-Pacific Partnership) that Japan has signed with ten countries of the Great Pacific region will have the effect of eliminating tariffs.
Some sectors ( rice, wheat, dairy, sugar , pork / beef meat) will record a sharp decline in tariffs , other total abolition. Upon entry into force of TPP 3 % tax on vegetables ( peppers , cabbage , lettuce, spinach .. ) and those of 6% on strawberry watermelon and other fruits will be deleted.
Taxes on potatoes for the fries (9% ) and those over onions (8.5%) will be phased out over the coming years.
Professionals believe that these tariff reductions will have a limited effect on imports , many Japanese consumers preferring the fresh local produce. Japanese farmers fear that imports will pull prices down.
