Cut costs, reduce spoilage and increase harvest revenue? Felix Instruments’ easy-to-use measurement tool is the KEY!
Determined to cut costs, reduce spoilage and increase harvest revenue, Felix Instruments designs and manufactures tools for fresh produce professionals. Felix Instruments – Applied Food Science is a subsidiary of CID Bio-Science, Inc. which has been designing instruments for plant and environmental research for over 25 years. Combining innovation and experience, Felix Instruments has launched 3 new tools just this year - the Avocado Quality Meter, the Mango Quality Meter and the new Kiwi Quality Meter.
Leonard Felix, President at Felix Instruments, shared with us exclusive insights on freshly launched products in 2019. “By designing and engineering gas analysis and NIR assessment tools we provide growers and post-harvest operations with the data they need to reduce waste and generate more revenue from their commodities. Avocado and Mango Quality Meters, released in 2019, enable growers and packers to accurately and non-destructively estimate the dry matter of the fruit in seconds, even while still on the tree.” Mr. Felix continues: “With its initial introduction to the market, the instrument stands as one of the industry’s biggest technological leaps to date. NIR based Quality Meters will revolutionize the industry because in the past analyzing a crop meant that growers had to invest in multiple workers and the associated lab equipment and wait days for just to get a snippet of the data we can now collect in seconds."
Launched in 2017 the first F-750 Produce Quality Meters are still in use by growers and post-harvest operations. But based on customers demand for simpler and less expensive instruments, Felix Instruments has launched these new commodity specific quality meters
Thus far in the first 9 months 2019, the company has noticed a significant increase in sales to returning clients. As Mr. Felix shared with us at Asia Fruit Logistica 2019: “Growers and distributors of fresh produce, who bought our gas analysis and NIR assessment equipment once, need at least 2-3 months to test the first unit they buy and integrate it into their processes. But happily, after testing, most come back to us to order 3- 5 additional meters. Such loyalty from clients has helped us to build a solid user community with the Avocado and Mango Quality Meters in Mexico, Netherlands, USA, Kenya, Australia and New Zealand.
The Kiwi Quality Meter is being tested in Europe, New Zealand and the Americas. Mr. Scott Trimble, Marketing Director at Felix Instruments, shared with us: “The European testing results will be received in the coming weeks. Hopefully, next month at PMA Fresh Summit 2019 in Los Angeles, USA we will officially announce the first shipments of the Kiwi Quality Meter”.
Take the opportunity to test Felix Instruments’ updated easy-to-use measurement tool at the next trade shows: World Avocado Congress, Medellín, Columbia, in September 22-28 and PMA Fresh Summit Anaheim, California, in October 17-19.
