In South Africa, the 1st estimate carried out by SATI (South African Table Grape Industry) forecasts for the 2021/22 season volumes similar to the 2020/21 season.
SATI (South African Table Grape Industry) estimates the 2021/22 table grape harvest at volumes between 70.60 million and 77.70 million boxes (4.5 kg equivalent), with a midpoint of 74.2 million boxes, which is very close to the 74.89 million boxes reached in 2020/21.
The total area fell from 21,100 hectares the previous season to 20,564 hectares this year, but this decline should be offset by the higher yield of the new vines coming into production.
In South Africa, the 2 earliest regions are Northern Provinces and Orange River which should start packaging their products in early November. Then as usual, will follow the Olifants River, Berg River, Hex River regions which will start to harvest about a month or more after the 2 early regions.
