The state of Kerala (southwest India) has been impacted by massive monsoon rains that have caused the most severe floods since 1924.

Kerala received 2,377.9 mm of rain, 42% above the normal weighted average of 1,676.3 mm for the period.

ASSOCHAM (Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India) estimates that nearly 300,000 farms have been affected and crop losses will affect more than 45,988 hectares throughout the state, rice plantations have suffered the most but also vegetable, fruit and spices productions.

The toll of human losses is heavy and the impact of these floods will continue. The reconstruction promises to be gigantic between infrastructures (roads, electricity network ...) and homes.
