Good start for dried figs

From that date until October 5th, the first ship of over 6,500 tons of dried figs has been chartered for a value of 27.5 million dollars. Dried figs, Turkish traditional export product, were sold to 47 different countries. In 2015-2016, 67 500 tonnes of dried figs were exported. Production for the 2016-2017 season should be about 74 500 tonnes and with annual export expected to be slightly lower than last year.

President of the union's executive board dried fruit exporters in the Aegean region, Mr. Birol Celep says that efforts by all participants of the production to the export stage, in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and of Economy to promote their products have had some benefit, particularly in Asian countries.

According to figures obtained during this first week of export, it is France that holds the first rank, followed closely by Germany. Italy is in 3rd place and Switzerland is in 4th place. The United States only come in fifth position.
