Tomato exports surged
FJ
3-digit growth in exports of tomatoes towards Europe.
In less than 10 years, tomato exports to Europe rose by +123%. Morocco in 2004 had exported 163 million pounds of tomatoes, in 2013 exports totaled 365.62 million pounds.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Employment and Labour, the performance of Moroccan production is explained among other things by the cost of labor, since the farm work is paid around 5 euros an hour in Europe in 2013, and costs only € 0.65 per hour in Morocco. Over the period the price has increased from 0.73 euros to 0.77 euros per kilo.
