Iranian pomegranate exports up 120% in value terms

The value of Iranian pomegranate exports rose by 120% in the first 8 months (21 March-21 November 2023) of the Iranian calendar year (Photo :iranpress.com).
Iran has 96,500 hectares dedicated to pomegranate cultivation. Iran ranks 3rd in the world in terms of production volume (around 1.1 million tonnes in 2022), behind India (2.44 million tonnes) and China (1.6 million tonnes).
Local media report that according to the Ministry of Agriculture's Tropical and Semi-tropical Fruit Bureau, the value of Iranian pomegranate exports rose by +120% in the first 8 months (21 March-21 November 2023) of the Iranian calendar year (21 March 2023-20 March 2024), compared with the same period the previous year.
The Office of Tropical and Semi-tropical Fruit reported that 12,600 tonnes of pomegranates with an estimated value of USD 6 million were exported during this 8-month period. In terms of volume, this represents a 70% increase on the same period last year.
