Sales of groceries and fruit & vegetables for Amazon
Germany
Monday 12 July 2010
Fresh products will be supplied by regional brands and delivered every day.
Seller of books and cultural products, Amazon began to sell food, including fresh products, in Germany.
Amazon hopes to succeed on a market where German foodstuffs retailers failed. Amazon is going to guarantee a daily delivery for orders made before 11 am.
The new on-line offer covers more than 35.000 products. Most of them are fed by a network of more than 60 suppliers, including Froodies, Gourmantis and Moevenpick.
Amazon launched since 2006 the sale of foodstuffs in United States and knew difficulties at the beginning, for many investments in deliveries companies and the implementation of a large-scale logistic infrastructure.
Amazon wishes to work with regional partners to facilitate the supply and simplify distribution infrastructure. This model of regional partnership is what the company hopes to transplant successfully in Germany.
