Greece increases tomato exports by 148%. Is Europe trying to help Greece by buying its products or is it taking advantage of lower prices?
There is some optimism for the tomato sector in Greece following impressive export results.
In 2011, exports of tomatoes to the EU reached 10,392 tons, an increase of 148% compared to 2010 figures, while exports to countries
outside the EU declined by about 31% according to Eurostat data.
Greek products appear to be attractive to foreign importers, despite (or because of) the crisis in the country.
