Hungary
Thursday 24 June 2010
Bad weather conditions will delayed melons and watermelons season in Hungary.
Heavy rain and unseasonably cold temperatures in May have pushed Hungary's melon season back about three weeks, said György Simonka from the Hungarian Melon Association.
The first melons are expected to be harvested around July 10th.
Melons are grown on about 7,000 hectares in Hungary. About 3,000 hectares of this area is around Medgyesegyháza. Last year's melon harvest reached 150,000 tons.
