"The packaging guarantees a 'barrier' effect and it is the first protection of the products" underlined Ms. Françoise ANDRES, President of Elipso (Photo: plastalliance.org).
While some sectors have slowed down their production, others have recorded an increase in activity, notably manufacturers of plastics for the packaging of food products.
In France, ELIPSO, the professional association of plastic packaging manufacturers, conducted a study with its members entitled "Plastic packaging companies mobilized and united in the face of the Covid-19 crisis".
The study indicates that 91% of respondents are able to respond fully to requests from the food, health and hygiene sectors. More than half of the food packaging suppliers are facing an increase in their activity.
An increase which reaches 20 to 30% and which can be explained by the increased sales of prepackaged fruits and vegetables. Consumers believe that prepackaged products are less likely to carry contamination than bulk products.
This enthusiasm for pre-packaged products does not make us forget the previous years which have seen a real hunt for plastic. Professionals in the sector hope for a rehabilitation of the material.
