Antwerp, the second largest port in Europe after Rotterdam, saw its total traffic increase by 4.6% in 2011.

Traffic reached 186.4 million tons of cargo, an increase of 4.6% based on 2010 (178.2 million tons). Container volumes rose 2.2% to 104.7 million tons - in standard containers (Twenty foot Equivalent Unit)
8,638,311 TEU.
A eform of labour law is expected soon and should be implemented. "This initiative will strengthen the competitive position of Antwerp, which is still the largest general cargo port in Europe," said CEO Eddy Bruyninckx.
