In the Philippines, the Davao region is the country's main durian-growing area. To take advantage of export opportunities, an expansion of 15,000 hectares is planned.

According to the Philippine media, during the recent AgriBiz Media Forum, DIADC (Durian Industry Association of Davao City) President Emmanuel Belviz stated that the organisation is targeting 15,000 hectares of expansion over the next 5 years.

In 2021, there were just 8,179 hectares of durian plantations in the Davao region, with 884,567 trees bearing fruit, according to data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Expanding the area under durian would lead to an increase in production and higher exports. Demand for durians is very high in Asian countries, particularly China, where the Philippines hopes to ship 54,000 tonnes of premium durians this year.
