Regional weather differences shape Japan's November tomato outlook.
Tomato shipments to Tokyo's central wholesale markets are expected to remain near normal levels in November 2026, with prices also forecast to stay close to their five-year average, according to Japan's Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.
Regional growing conditions
The outlook differs between production regions. Growers in Kanto and Tokai experienced prolonged rainfall in September, which affected fruit setting and raised concerns about lower tomato yields.
Conditions have been more favourable in Kumamoto, where moderate temperatures in September and good weather throughout October supported normal crop development.
Supply and price outlook
Kumamoto accounted for 21% of tomato arrivals at Tokyo's central wholesale markets in November 2025, followed by Chiba with 15%, Aichi with 14% and Tochigi with 13%.
Despite the weather-related difficulties in some growing areas, the ministry expects overall November arrivals and wholesale prices to remain within the normal range, defined as 90–110% of the average recorded over the previous five years.
The forecast is based on information collected from major production areas and wholesale market operators.
