Good performance for pineapple exports to Europe

The province of Ciego de Ávila (Cuba ) exceeded its forecast of pineapple exports.

Since January, the province was able to export 560 tonnes of fresh pineapple ( MD-2 variety ) in Italy and Spain, in excess of 60 tons forecasts.In total, since the beginning of exports in 2012 the province of Ciego de Ávila has shipped over 1,200 tons of pineapples to the Old Continent.

This variety as triple performance compared to pineapple varieties grown before. This year production will exceed the 5,500 tonnes expected . These tonnages will increase further if the areas are extended to 2000 hectares as expected for 2018.

The Ciego de Ávila region also produces mangoes , guavas, papayas and avocados.
