The snow that fell over the past two days has surprised strawberry growers in this region because of the season's advancement. Produced on 13,000 acres in a greenhouse, the strawberry has a brand image because of its quality and taste. So the producers call it "red gold".
The Chamber of Agriculture still has to quantify the damage, but it can already be said that a large part of the production will be lost. The greenhouses collapsed under the weight of the snow.
Inegöl is a mainly fruit-producing area of around 190,000 acres, and cherry blossoms have also been affected, albeit with minor hardship.
Producers are now afraid of the frost that could follow and permanently disrupt the season.
