AUGURA aims to generate new business opportunities during Expo Dubai, the World Expo that will be held from October 1, 2021.
Members of the Colombian Banana Association (Augura) confirmed their participation in Expo Dubai, the international promotion event that for the first time will take place in the Middle East and that will be a main means to reactivate the world economy.
In 2020, the main buyers of Colombian bananas in the Menasa region (Middle East, North Africa and South Asia) were Tunisia, Algeria, United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Morocco, according to the report of the Association of Banana Growers of Colombia (Augura).
According to Dane, supplies of the fruit to these countries reached $ 4.6 million, more than 100% of what was registered in 2019.
Emerson Aguirre Medina, the president of Augura, says that 85% of what Dubai consumes is imported, in addition, due to its location and proximity to Africa, it is a natural buyer of bananas.
Members of the Augura confirmed their participation in Expo Dubai, the international promotion event that for the first time will take place in the Middle East and that will be a main means to reactivate the world economy.
Augura is a non-profit organization that brings together the banana producers and marketers of Magdalena and Antioquia, whose plantings total 78% of the cultivated area of bananas in Colombia. It will present the fruit at Expo Dubai as a supply possibility for consumers in the Menasa area, which has more than 2 billion potential consumers.
The president of ProColombia (the entity that promotes international tourism, foreign investment and non-traditional exports in Colombia), Flavia Santoro, believes that Expo Dubai will be a good opportunity to present Colombia's tourism offer to the world, position the country as investment destination and show perfect quality of Colombian products for non-mining energy exports.
