The Greek kiwis exported to South Africa, the fruit seasons in the two countries complement each other.
If South Africa exports fresh fruit to Greece, Greece exports only processed fruit and vegetables to South Africa, but the EU-funded 'Hello Kiwi' program could alter the current situation.
This program allowed the Greek Association of Kiwi Producers to present its products at the HOSTEX 2016 in Johannesburg. These Greek kiwis have aroused the interest of large supermarkets' buyers of South Africa. The next edition of HOSTEX (07-09 May 2017) will be an opportunity to develop these contacts and move forward to import Greek kiwis into South Africa.
Currently, South Africa exports citrus fruits, apples, peaches, apricots and cherries to Greece. The total annual trade between the 2 countries is relatively low, about 100 million euros in the last 5 years.
