22% drop in French production of apples in 2012.
Forecast production in 2012 fell sharply compared to last year.

Agreste has announces a 22% decrease compared to 2011 and a drop of 19% compared to the average over the past 5 years. This decline is explained by the poor weather in spring (frost, rain and hail).

Apple production is estimated at 1.456 million tons by the
Department of Statistics and Forecasting (SSP). In the central region where frost caused extensive damage in orchards in mid-April, the production forecast is far below that of 2011 (- 56%). In Limousin, the frost of April 17 will result in a production loss of 85-95%.
