Shipments of potatoes and onions subject to authorization

In order to avoid shortages due to exports and to combat fluctuations in consumer prices, potatoes and onions are now included in the list of products of which export is subject to prior authorization.

 

 

 

Turkish professionals will need special permission to export potatoes and onions. The Anadolu news agency announced that according to the directives of the Ministry of Commerce, fresh or frozen potatoes and onions have been added to the list of products, the export of which is subject to prior authorization.

 

 

 

According to the ministry, this decision was taken to avoid shortages of supplies in the country due to exports and to combat fluctuations in consumer prices.

 

 

 

Towards the end of 2018, the country had to deal with soaring prices for some staples, including onions and potatoes. At that time, the illegal storage of products by producers and resellers had caused the increase prices.
