NRCB has introduced dozens of new varieties and has the latest technologies.
NRCB (National Research Center for Banana) has announced 3 new banana varieties that will soon be available to Indian farmers. One of these varieties would withstand the cyclonic winds.
As part of its initiative to bring technology closer to farmers, NRCB has announced 3 new banana varieties: Kaveri Saba, Kaveri Kalki and Kaveri Sugantham. One, Kaveri Kalki, is a dwarf variety, the plants will only have half the height of a normal banana and do not require shoring. Bananas will ripen 2 months before the normal varieties but especially this variety is resistant to violent cyclonic winds.
To better help farmers, the NRCB will put in place a structure that can help banana producers use all of the institute's research technologies. The seedlings of these new varieties will be available from next year.
