Spectacular increase in avocado imports to South Korea

In 2010 South Korea imported 457 tons, then 2,915 tons in 2016 and this year 5,000 tons are foreseen.
South Korea has increased the volume of imported avocados by a factor of six in a few years and demand continues to grow, this year the number of imported avocados will be 70% higher than last year.
According to data from the Korea Customs Service, the quantity of avocados imported last year totaled 2,915 tons, compared to 457 tons imported in 2010 an increase 6 times higher in volume.
By the end of the year, Korean imports of avocados are expected to reach nearly 5,000 tons.
Avocados, for their versatility in cooking and their health benefits, are becoming more popular and the demand from South Korean consumers should continue to rise.
