Organic vegetables are attracting more and more Swiss consumers

In Switzerland sales of organic vegetables account for 14.4% of total sales.
In 2018 the total consumption of fresh vegetables in Switzerland decreased in volume by 1% but sales of organic vegetables increased by 5.5% and represent 14.4% of total sales.
The Swiss consumed 389,000 tonnes of fresh vegetables in 2018, which was 1% less than the previous year. But in this total volume organic vegetables account for 55,900 tons. Sales of organic vegetables increased by 5.5% per year and accounted for 14.4% of total sales.
According to the Federal Office of Agriculture, for a kilo of organic vegetables, Swiss consumers paid CHF 7.74 in 2018, or 6% more than in 2016.
