Reduce the use of phytosanitary products and synthetic fertilizers, experiment with innovative production methods and develop organic farming on 20% of surfaces by 2025.
After a good 3 years of partnership with WWF FRANCE, COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE presents the progress of its commitments for a more sustainable production of bananas.
The road is traced towards 20% of organic banana plantations by 2025
Through the acquisition of new areas and the conversion of some of its plantations, the production of organic bananas has increased significantly. Already representing 7% of banana plantations in 2018, on track for the 20% target by 2025.
The "4x sans" project is concretized in land actions
In collaboration with CIRAD experts, Compagnie Fruitière conducted a diagnosis in 2017 in Ghana, Côte d'Ivoire and Cameroon for the implementation of the "4x without" project, with the aim of gradually eliminating herbicides, fungicides, insecticides and nematicides where conditions are considered favorable. Agro-climatic conditions in Ghana have already made progress toward this goal. The improvement of agricultural practices is already in progress with positive results: a 12% reduction in the quantities of active ingredient used in phytosanitary products for the 3 production subsidiaries (PHP in Cameroon, SCB in Côte d'Ivoire and GEL in Ghana).
WWF FRANCE has supported COMPAGNIE FRUITIERE in the implementation of concrete actions responding to 3 major objectives of its sustainable development policy: continuous improvement of agricultural practices, experimentation of innovative and more sustainable production methods, promotion of a more sustainable of bananas.
