The largest crop in history is expected
FJ
The almond industry expects this year the largest crop ever made in Australia.
Harvest began in late February in some regions ( Sunraysia , Riverland , Riverina ) and will continue until April , depending on weather conditions." Almond Board of Australia" estimates that production will total this year from 75 to 80 000 tonnes , exceeding production in 2013 ( 73,000 tonnes).
The area even plans to reach 90 000 tonnes in 2017 when new orchards will be in full production. This abundant production puts Australia in a strong position to meet the ever increasing global demand (India, China ), while the United States , by far the No. 1 producer , with 80% of the world's almonds, face significant drought problems.
