The organic market continues to grow

In France, sales of organic products exceeded 7 billion euros at the end of 2016, an increase of 20% over one year.
Strong increase in the demand for organic products that are now part of the daily French consumer. 89% had consumed organic products in 2016 and 69% consumed them regularly (at least once a month).
A study on organic products confirms this evolution in consumer habits. In all distribution channels combined, including in collective catering, sales of organic products exceeded € 7 billion at the end of 2016, an increase of 20% in one year (5.76 billion euros, End of 2015). Increase of + 25% for sales of organic stores.
To meet this high demand, organic production is growing. At the end of 2016, 47 185 operators (+ 11.5%) were able to resume biological activities, including 32 326 farmers (+ 12%) in organic products. Growth also increased for organic areas, with more than 1.5 million hectares (+ 16%) at the end of 2016. Organic farming area (SAU) is now 5.7%, compared with 4, 9% by the end of 2015.
