The Russian ban on EU fruit and vegetables will benefit Turkish exports.
The ban on imports on European fruit and vegetables in Russia will benefit Turkey, according to professionals in the sector.
Russia banned imports of fruits and vegetables from German and Spain and then the whole EU with the spread of the deadly bacteria E. coli (EHEC).
According to Turkish professionals, this ban is to open up opportunities. Ali Kavak of the Union of Exporters says Turkey could surpass Spain, its main competitor.
Shipments to Russia already represent 35% of Turkish exports of fruits and vegetables and trade was already rising before the crisis and could now skyrocket.
